Atulan Navaratnam

Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions, OpenText

Atulan leads buy and sell-side deals across North America, Europe and Asia from prospect mining and delicate early stage dialogue to complex carve-outs and post-merger-integration.

These transactions have helped outpace organic growth, drive consolidation, enter new frontiers and diversify businesses. On the sell-side he has helped restructure and monetize assets, divest non-core or sub-scale businesses and enhance liquidity.

Currently, Atulan is Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions at OpenText, part of the Corporate Development team that has deployed over $4.5B in capital since late 2015. Recently, he led OpenText’s $1.4B acquisition of Carbonite Inc. and is continuously on the hunt for new acquisitions.

Previously, Atulan was with George Weston Ltd., where he led Loblaw’s $12.4B acquisition of Shoppers Drug Mart. Later, he successfully led its integration, helping deliver synergies in excess of $300M.

Prior to GWL and Loblaw, Atulan worked on several transactions at Nortel, including the formation of the LG-Nortel Joint-Venture in South Korea (presently Ericsson-LG) which reached $1.3B in revenues under Nortel control. He also worked on the sale of Nortel’s extraordinary patent portfolio for an unprecedented $4.5B.
