Named by “Best Lawyers” as the “Lawyer of the Year for Venture Capital Law in Vancouver” for 2022 and 2024, I’m a corporate, venture finance and M&A lawyer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in a firm I co-founded with two amazing partners over twelve years ago. Here at “MDS” we are (we’re told) having a real impact on the British Columbia market for M&A legal services with our uniquely business-minded approach to doing deals (which includes a true “fixed fee” and “broken deal” offering).
Outside of my day (and evening) job, I Co-Chair the Vancouver chapter for NYC-based Tiger 21 which is a powerful and unique wealth stewardship learning group for ultra high net worth investors built upon a very impressive proprietary framework designed to enhance peer-to-peer and expert sharing and education.
I’m also (on a relatively small scale) an early stage “angel” investor, simply because I thrive on the excitement of a new – and of a good and maybe even an important – idea, and on the energy and experience that can come from the focused and passionate entrepreneurs and supporters behind and around such an idea. I’m Chair of the Board of Nanozen Industries Inc., (www.nanozen.com) an exciting company with a proprietary air monitoring device which detects airborne particles that can cause cancer, respiratory diseases and explosions. In December of 2014, I led Conasys Consumer Assurance Systems Inc. through its sale to Constellation Software Inc. (CSU-T) as Chair of the Board in a company with over 50 shareholders.
Lastly (and some might argue inspired, at least in part, by my own “angel investing wings”) – I’ve authored a picture book (what I describe as a “kids’ book for adults”) released in early 2015 entitled “Flight of the Headless Chicken: Can living from the heart give chickens wings that work?” (fothc.com) And as expected, it’s become an “International Worst-Seller”….
